Pork Scaloppini

So Lilly's first food was pork scaloppini.  I was busy chatting and she reached over and pulled my plate to her so she could reach some.  By the time I looked down she was happily chewing away.  I did pull most of it out of her mouth- which did not make her happy.

This is where I have to tell you the story of my sister's first food.  She was being fussy and fussy and so my mom sent her outside with my dad.  Dad has been chopping wood and was sitting on a log having a baloney sandwich for lunch.  Lisa bent right over and took a big bite of it, chewed, swallowed and had some more.  and she wasn't fussy anymore.

Back to Lilly.  So we got out the cereal that I had bought and let her eat some it.  Mark was very insistent that he needed to help Lilly eat.

In case you were wondering the recommended time to start solids is 6 months.  Luckily neither of our families have histories of asthma or allergies- which are higher in kids who are started on solids early.   But still I had intended to exclusively breast feed until 6 months as that is what the research shows is best.   Lilly is only 5 months old.  Mark was also 5 months old when he started solids.   With both kids we went with the three signs that your child is ready to eat.  1. they can sit up on their own  2. they are no longer tongue thrusting (this is the reflex that babies have to push everything out of their mouths- it keeps them from chocking while infants) 3. they are reaching for food and mimicking eating while at the table with you.

My two kids

I am so happy to have two such great kids.  I love watching them play together.  And am looking forward to the day when they can entertain each other without my help.  Watching Mark be such a loving big brother is the best reward.  People are always asking me how he did with getting a sibling (especially people who are pregnant with their second :) ).  It is great to be able to say that we were really worried about the transition but it has gone extremely smoothly.

Hugging "MY Lilly"

Giving her an unsolicited kiss.

Showing her how the toy turns on.  He spends a lot of time telling Lilly about how to do things.  It usually sounds like this "see, Lilly, you push this button, Lilly, see, this is how we do it"

This one, I admit, I posed- but how could I not they are my precious little kiddos :)

Happy Lilly

Lilly sure is a happy kiddo.  Of course few things are as fun as a daddy.

Lilly can now sit by herself for long periods of time.

Finally warm enough for the park.

It has been so cold we haven't been to the park in about a month.

Park and Pool in one day

A good time was had at the pool today. Lilly had her first long swim. She has been in the pool a few times- but never for very long. Today she was having a really good time so got to swim around and play with a toy in the water for a while.

Mark learned to jump in all by himself. He had a ball. In these photos he is still holding hands with Tim while he goes in. It was just a few jumps after this that Tim backed up and Mark jumped to him. Even later I was in with them and Mark was jumping to me- but not getting anywhere near me. I would have to take a step forward to grab him on his way back up. You would think that a kiddo who has no problem jumping in and all the way under wouldn't mind the shower- but you would be wrong :)

Lilly

Lilly loves her toes

Trip to the dinosaur museum

"We are climbing to the top of the big big mountain"

They had a huge wall of this toy. I don't know what it is called, but when we were kids we had one that was small and metal and sat on the table and you pushed your face into all its many little pins.

And as always when we go there we have to go to the space section. In addition to the all the fun exhibits that are for everyone there is a corner for kids to play. "That's spaceman Mark, flying the space shuttle, into space, and pushing buttons"

Sledding

LIlly didn't have much of a view- but at least she was warm

Mark was not happy about it at all. After having a very great time sledding with Grandma I thought he would be excited to go again- but I was wrong. He went down the hill once with Tim and once with Lilly and I. So 30 minutes to get ready to go, 30 minutes to drive into the mountains, 10 minutes to get dressed up once we got there and about 10 minutes on the hill.

A few more from Christmas
